I had the privilege of spending time with a woman very dear to me. As we went about our various activities and outings, I found myself aware of the ways she left herself unguarded.
Parked on a city street and standing at the car's hatchback, oblivious to her surroundings, as she organized something. This 5 minute activity made her an easy target.
Letting children run out of her reach on a city sidewalk, people all around. There aren't many people in the physical shape necessary to stop a child abductor from running off with a child that far from the parent.
Driving through town with doors unlocked.
Walking and talking on cell phone in public.
Riding on elevator without making eye contact or small talk with other passengers.
