As many are celebrating the New Year with parties and friends; when it comes to personal safety, YOU are your own first line of defense.
Make plans BEFORE partying to have a designated driver. And, just because you know or trust a person doesn’t mean that they won’t try to take advantage of you. It's a sad fact that GHB is commonly and easily slipped unsuspectingly into drinks.
The following list of safety precautions will help you increase your ability to detect social situations that are potentially dangerous and reduce your chances of becoming a statistic:
*Do not drink anything that you haven’t opened yourself.
*Do not leave your drink unattended or allow others to share with you.
*Do not leave a party or club alone or with someone who you have just met.
*Report all suspicious behavior immediately.
*If you become overly intoxicated in a short period of time, usually five to fifteen minutes, report how you feel to a trusted friend and seek their assistance.
According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), “Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.”
