...more common than ...cancer

As I sit here researching women's self defense, I have an intense desire to inform, enlighten, and educate. Women need to understand and be empowered.

About 90% of sexual offenses involving children are committed by older males on young girls; and about 75% of these offenses are committed by persons known to the victims, (fathers, other relatives, or visitors and family friends). According to the American Medical Association (AMA), over 61% of female victims of assault are under age 18.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injuries to women ages 15 - 44, more common than automobile accidents, muggings, and cancer deaths combined (Surgeon General, US. Public Health Services, (Journal of the American Medical Association, 276:23, 31-32, June 17, 1992). 22-35% of women who visit emergency rooms are there for injuries related to ongoing abuse (Journal of American Medical Association, 1990).

There are so many great efforts against cancer, why not domestic violence? Isn't it time to get our heads out of the sand?
